Chateau de la Couronne, Marthon, France

Pull up to Chateau de la Couronne and you’ll see an imposing, rather beautiful ancient Chateau with tower and turrets, in local honey coloured stone just on the edge of a small, working village.

Open the doors, however, and you’re into a contemporary, eclectic design feast for the eyes and the soul. It’s not surprising that the Chateau figures in the photo albums of many film and TV people. A creative fusion of commissioned pieces, modern art, design classics of the 60’s and 70’s and ornate classics sit within the framework of a building alive with original features and organic materials.

It is an urban boutique hotel transplanted to rural France.Five sumptuous and individual hotel suites, each with decadent, private bathroom, flat screen TV and DVD and stocked wine cooler provide your private little kingdom, whilst downstairs the three Salons, complete with an Honesty Bar, ensure that there is enough space to enjoy the luxury of just whiling away time doing very little.

And if that sounds too much of a guilty pleasure, there are always the heated pool, private cinema, and five acres of grounds to divert your attention. Breakfast can be taken either in the Refectoire or on the terrace.

If you hire the entire Chateau, there are another four bedrooms and three bathrooms for you to fill with family or friends, and even a full professional kitchen for the enthusiastic cooks among you.

For groups, catering can be arranged with our professional French chef, who will come in to cook your meals every day, or for a one-off occasion, which can be set up in the refectoire, a huge, high-ceilinged dining room. And for weddings – something of a speciality of the Chateau – you can pull out all the stops.

Blessings in the formal French gardens, or in front of a blazing log fire – take your pick. We will plan your ceremony as you wish, using our local knowledge of superb caterers using the best local produce, photographers, florists, even a celebrant to conduct your blessing.

With appearances in the media everywhere from Grazia to The Guardian, Hello, OK and Paris Match to Luxe TV, Glamour Magazine and books like The World’s Best Designed Honeymoon Hotels, Chateau de la Couronne has friends all over the world. Once you’ve been here, it’s easy to see why.
